| - Folks, I´d start by reading about standard portuguese http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Portuguese Follow the external link (bottom of the page) \"Description of the pronunciation rules of European Portuguese\" to the site: http://www.learningportuguese.co.uk/ and click on \"Pronunciation\" (left menu). You´ll reach the section about standard portuguese pronunciation rules. My piece of advice: visit this once, listen to those audio files and then... forget it :-) Learning by listening those files is so... boring. There must be an easier way. Piece of advice #2 - easier way #1: find a native portuguese speaker who can talk by skype or msn, and practice it. Piece of advice #3 - easier way #2: listen to portuguese music! I think online or CD music are the best audio files availabe around. Listen to the music while reading the lyrics: it´s easy, it´s fun and it´s really effective. Can you imagine someone asking for \"english pronunciation rules\"? Sure, you can read this to grasp the basics, not much more than that; listen to music in english (whatever: rock, pop, blues, country, hip hop etc etc) and you´ll learn much more. So, you can refer to the thread \"Portuguese Songs\" in this forum; if you´re into brazilian music you can read the post: http://www.phrasebase.com/forum/read.php?TID=5811 I´m not that familiar with portuguese music, I\'d suggest Madredeus or fado singers. Just my $0.02. | |
