- what's the difference between Necessitar and Precisar ?
jrclsThursday 05th of May 2005 10:54:06 PM
- This difference might belong to a lesson called "Very advanced topics on Portuguese" :-)

They mean basically the same but "precisar" is more colloquial and more common.

(There´s yet another verb with the same meaning, "carecer".)

So you may use "precisar" and forget the others for a while.

Question - Are there any shorter/abbreviated forms of 'obrigado'?

Like in English we say 'Thanks' rather than 'Thankyou'.

Re: Are there any shorter/abbreviated forms of 'obrigado'? - Well, 'obrigado' is very common. But you can use 'valeu' too. It's a slang word, a very colloquial form of obrigado. And I think it's a little weaker too.

true or false? -

I need a car = Eu preciso de um carro
I need a house = Eu preciso de uma casa

Eu preciso dum carro.
Eu preciso duma casa.

I am a bit confused. :(
