Share your Idioms! - How about giving some examples of words and phrases that can be used in conversation / as idioms.

Please specify whether they\'re PT-pt or PT-br (or if you don\'t know).

I\'ll start off! Please offer corrections if these are wrong =)

.:: IR for Future ::.

Vamos comer, sim? -- We\'re gonna eat, yeah?
Lit. We go eat, yes?

Vou ler -- I\'ll read it / I\'m gonna read
Lit. I go read.

.:: BEM used as in English ::.

Ele, bem como os outros, escreveu... -- He, as well as the others, wrote...

Eu tambem -- Me too
Lit. I as well (tão+bem = as+well)

bem-vindo -- welcome
Lit. well + come (past participle)

.:: Other expressions ::.

Não ter nada a [b]ver[/b] com alguem -- to have nothing to [b]do[/b] with someone.
Lit. To have nothing to [b]SEE[/b] with someone.

A história é [b]repleta de[/b] tais exemplos -- History is [b]full of[/b] such examples.
Lit. The history is replete of such examples.

Certamente que não -- Certainly not.

Sem dúvida -- Without doubt; Undoubtedly.

Tu nunca te lembras de nada! -- You never remember anything!
Lit. You never remind yourself of anything (looking at it this way explains the use if \'te\' as well as \'tu\', and the \'de\').

[b]Tens de[/b] cortar todo contato com eles -- [b]You have to[/b] cut all contact with them.

I can only now remember a word that is quite often used by the Portuguese: \"lá\". We use it sometimes in Expressions like \"Vá lá!\" which doesn\'t mean literally \"Go there\" but \"Come on!\", specially when you are a bit impatient; we also use it with the expression \"Desculpa lá\", which again doesn\'t mean \"Sorry there\", but it\'s used when you\'re not agreeing with someone and also when you say \"sorry\".

I have a German friend that at first found it a little bit confusing \"Desculpa lá?? Where?\" and now he uses it quite often, even too often...

As soon as I remeber more, I\'ll post here.

Lit. \"I am not even there\"

Vou nessa - I\'m leaving
Lit. \"I\'ll go on this\"

- Fica frio!! or fria (feminino)to be or keep cool meaning = take it easy !!
vai encarar? = are you going to face it? ( a situation)
desculpa, vai! sorry, ok?or sorry, will you? - but the verb \"vai\" means exactly \" go\"
fala aí!! speak up! but \" aí\" means there

you can join = fala aí, vai!

- I was just talking about football and I came up with another expression that we use quite often:

\"O jogo contra a Croácia não vai ser pêra doce para os brasileiros\"
Literal translation: \"The game against Croacia is not going to be a sweet pear for the brazilians\"

Real meaning: \"The game against Croacia is not going to be easy for the brazilians\"
