jrclsSunday 13th of August 2006 09:43:40 PM
- Fatal_fury, correction:

When you wrote:
> Eu não ouvir que você ditado.
I think you wanted to mean
> Eu não ouvi o que você disse.

But this is past simple, and the sentence
I can\'t hear what you\'re saying.
is present simple + present continuous. So:
> Eu não ouço o que você está dizendo.
\"Ouço\" from \"ouvir\", irregular verb. The phrase above is brazilian portuguese. Standard portuguese form:
> Eu não ouço o que tu estás a dizer.

You also wrote:
> (If that\'s worng forgive me, i\'m still learning)
Take it easy, we all forgive you :-)

Your phrase:
> I\'m not sorry for taking the money.*sticks out tounge and laughs maniacally*

Without sticking out tongue and laughing maniacally:
Eu não me arrependo por ter pegado o dinheiro.

Sticking out tongue and laughing maniacally:
Peguei o dinheiro SIM, e daí?
:-)

Next:

- Eu tenho esperado mais de duas horas.

How long are you staying here?
IsabelSaturday 09th of September 2006 05:04:02 AM
- Goran, in this case we use the \"pretérito perfeito\". Tenho esperado should be the translation of \"I\'ve been waiting\", giving the idea that you are still in the place waiting. :)

Há quanto tempo estás aqui?

I hate waiting!
dackelSaturday 09th of September 2006 05:31:46 PM
- Destesto esperar!
(Wouldn\'t that also mean \"I hate hoping:?)

I will come tomorrow if I\'m free.
dackelSaturday 09th of September 2006 05:32:24 PM
- *detesto
IsabelSunday 10th of September 2006 08:42:16 PM
- the verb \"esperar\" means only \"to wait for something\". When you want to say \"to hope\", in Portuguese is \"ter esperança\", so the right translation of \"I hate hoping\" would be \"destesto/odeio ter esperança!\" :)

Votarei amanhã, se estiver disponível.

Bring me a present!

dackelSunday 10th of September 2006 08:45:09 PM
- Thanks, but anyway, who hates hoping?:)

Ela está demandando.

There\'s a difference between SER and ESTAR. When I wrote \"she is demanding\" - it has to do with a characteristis of her personality. So in this case you use the verb SER and not ESTAR. Demanding in Portuguese is \"exigente\" :) So the right sentence is \"Ela é exigente\"

Although dackel\'s answer is correct, ppl usually say:
Quero ficar sozinho. (or \"sozinha\")

I warned you, didn\'t I?
Eu te/vos adverti, sim ou não?
The verb \"advertir\" is somewhat formal, better to use \"avisar\"; and the tag question, in portuguese, repeats the verb. So:
Eu te/vos avisei, não avisei?

Resuming the thread:

The winner takes it all! (ou simplesmente: It\'s all or nothing!)

There\'re some possibilities:

É tudo ou nada!
Ou vai ou racha! (more like to \"make it or break it\")

And, if you\'re into books and want to SHOW it :-) you can say:

Ao vencedor, as batatas!

(quotation from \"Quincas Borba\", a book by brazilian writer Machado de Assis.)

Next one: What\'s your plan?
