What does it mean? - já para não falar
MecikochSaturday 06th of January 2007 07:44:31 PM
- This expression by itself has no equivalent in English, though, if we take it literally, it could approximately mean something like \"but to not talk\", with já meaning \"otherwise\"/\"on the other hand\". It\'s totally up to the context.
DonaFlorSaturday 06th of January 2007 09:05:58 PM
- I guess it means: \'already not talking about\' and sounds more ironically.

- A cantora deve um milhão de dólares em prestações da hipoteca da mansão de Nova Jérsia, já para não falar nos impostos de 2006 sobre o imóvel, que ainda não pagou.

- In this case it is not ironic... instead, it has the sense of the English expression \'apart from\'.
Cian_brTuesday 16th of January 2007 11:54:40 AM
- Yes! \'apart from\' sounds like a good equivalent. Personally, I\'d translate it as \"not to mention\"; which is more or less the same, I guess.
