Punjabi phonetic alphabet - My Punjabi book uses a nice phonetic alphabet with the words in latin characters. So this way one can learn pronunciation with the words in latin. Of course I am fine with using the Punjabi alphabet to communicate with folks: ਸਿਤ ਸ੍ੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਜੀ?

Would people be interested in using this as a standard on the forum? Here\'s what it would look like:

Consonants:
ਕ = k; ਖ = k^; ਗ = g; ਘ = g^; ਙ = ŋ
ਰ = c; ਛ = c^; ਜ = j; ਝ = j^; ਞ = ń
ਟ = ţ; ਠ = ţ^; ਡ = ɖ; ਢ = ɖ^; ਣ = ṅ
ਤ = t; ਥ = t^; ਦ = d; ਧ = d^; ਨ = n
ਪ = p; ਫ = p^; ਬ = b; ਭ = b^; ਮ = m

ਯ = y; ਰ = r; ਲ = l; ਵ = v; ੜ = ɽ
ਸ਼ = sh; ਖ਼ = x; ਗ਼ = gh; ਜ਼ = z; ਫ਼ = f

Vowels:
[invisible] = a
ਾ = a:
ਿ = i
ੀ = i:
ਉ = u
ਊ = u:
ਏ = e
ਐ = Ɛ
ਅੋ = o
ਔ = ô

Nasalization (found in some words, like \"then\", ta~, or \"to me\", mƐnu~)
~

Here are some examples of words:
ਰੋਟੀ - roţi: (notice no ambiguity, unlike spelling it \"roti\")
ਖਾਣਾ = k^a:ṅa: (better than \"khana\", which could have a number of sounds in punjabi).

It may be too complicated for some people though. I know I will at least try to use it as much as possible (when not using Gurmukhi script that is), but I would like to know if anyone else is interested.

- That\'s great, but I speak the Pakistani Punjabi and for that we use the Urdu script

but if everyone is happy with the Indian version I guess that can also be used :)

Oh, interesting. In that case, it\'s even more imperative that we have some kind of phonetic alphabet that we can all read, like the one I presented above.

Samaira ji:, tuhaɖa: ki: xia:l hƐ?
Would it be too difficult to use this?
Ih mƐnu~ pata: nahi:.
