"Moment" by Ion Pop: The English translation of this poem was included in a review of an anthology I am interested in buying called "Born in Utopia: An Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Romanian Poetry."
It is so wonderful in the English that I am hoping that someone out there has access to it in the original Romanian and might be willing to take the time to post that here for comparison & study. Multumesc in advans.
Here is the poem
MOMENT by Ion Pop
In the upper corner of the window
I see walnut leaves quivering
in the noon wisp of wind,
and a starling feather floating down.
All I can do for it
is put it down here, to catch in coal black,
on the point of my pencil,
its gold:
maybe to make its fall slower, slower.
(translated by Adam Sorkin and Liviu Bleoca)
Wow.
