În cat că vă întrebaţi care este legătura dintre "cui" şi "talpă" :p, în română există o expresie- "a-şi bate singur cuie în talpă" (tradusă literal: "to hammer nails in one's own sole" care înseamnă "a face ceva ce ar putea să dăuneze eforturilor sau perspectivei proprii").
In case you were wondering how does "sole" connect to "nail" :p, there is an idiom in Romanian, "a-şi bate singur cuie în talpă" (litterally "to hammer nails in one's own sole") that conveys the idea of "to do something that might harm or impede one's own efforts or perspective".

"J" in Romanian sounds almost entirely like the same letter in French, let's say in "jardin". Also, the "s" in the English "pleasure" is a good indication.
un film. Yes, it is a neuter noun, so it goes like this: "un (masc.) film, două (fem) filme". In Romanian, the neuter nouns take their singular form from the masculines and their plural form from feminines.

I don't know how many meanings has a păli, but as far as I know, it is being used more with the meaning of "to turn white", "to fade", as in:
Când auzi vestea cea rea, faţa ei păli.
When she heard the bad news, her face turned white.
or in:
Toate păleau în faţa frumuseţii ei.
Everything faded in front of her beauty.(when being compared to her beauty)
Regarding the meaning that Pavel gave (to burn),there is a connected expression: pală de foc, which means "flacără" (flame) and also there is the word pălălaie(same significance).These are not used much nowadays.
