Poze din Oraşul New York: Alright, enough of this! I am the only one who never has neat pictures to show so here I go.

These pictures were taken over 2 days walking to work except for the Central Park Pics. I walked there during my lunch break just to take a few pictures. It is only 2 blocks away. I do love working in NYC. There is just so much to look at and it never gets tiring. These pictures do very little justice for the city, but I hope everyone likes them.

Some window shopping for Lina. :D. I would have taken more, but I felt a little silly taking pictures of womens clothing in the first place.

Outside Central Park's southern enterance.

This fountain is also near the entereance of Central Park.

This image is near CBS News building on 5th ave. Each morning they have performers of some sort. I always never seen anyone I recognize though. I have heard one guy watched Elton John do a song here one morning. That glass structure actually is an enterance into the subway. I don't know which one.

This is a fascinating fountain. The building that this is outside of has another on the opposing corner. I believe this is on 6th Ave.

Mulţumesc, pozele sunt atât de frumoase. Chiar m-am simţit pentru o zi in NYC.

The pictures are beautiful. I would like to post some pictures from my holiday, but I don't know how.
In fact, how about we all post pictures here? It would be something relaxing after the lessons and we all would get to know each other a little better.

I think it is a great idea. Go to photobucket.com and register an account. From there you can upload images to the site and post the correct link that they give you on the forum. You can also give the photobucket link to your friends and family so that they can veiw the pictures if you want.

What is that tall pole behind the fence?

In fact this is just a small part of the yard.

That would be the pole that holds the electricity wires.

mike111
Saturday 13th of September 2008 12:36:48 PM
Oh I see. what is the writing on the fence for?

Sorry that i'm just seeing this. I don't have much internet access these days. :( And my work blocks photos stored on photobucket.

anda
Saturday 13th of September 2008 12:52:29 PM
Don't worry about it!:)

The writing on the fence is my personal tribute to my favorite band: Bon Jovi. I painted lyrics, song and album titles. But that was a few years ago and the rain washed some of it.

mike111
Saturday 13th of September 2008 01:35:19 PM
Haha. No Kidding. You know I asked because I recognized the words and associated it to his songs. You know, Jon Bon Jovi grew up not far from where I grew up in New Jersey.

Thanks for sharing the picture. :)

anda
Saturday 13th of September 2008 09:16:41 PM
Really? You're from Sayreville?

As far as the band goes, I've been listening to Bon Jovi since I was ten and I still love their music.

mike111
Sunday 14th of September 2008 03:26:48 AM
Not Sayreville, but very close to it. A friend of mine moved into Sayreville when I was around 10 or so. So I would visit him occasionally and sleep over.

anda

How come you moved to Pennsylvania?

mike111
Monday 15th of September 2008 09:35:36 PM
To make a long story short, when I was young my parents divorced. My brother and I visited our father every other weekend in his home in NY and then in Pennsylvania when he eventually moved there about 15 years ago. When I was about 19 years old, my mother moved in with her (now) husband and I more or less bounced around for a year or two until eventually moving in with my father and step-mother in PA. I've been here ever since. :)

How long have you lived in your home in the picture?

anda
Tuesday 16th of September 2008 03:12:02 AM
I've lived there my whole life. But when I left for college I had to move to Ploiesti and only go home in the week-ends. In the summer holiday I go back there.
Now I'm in Ploiesti again because the school I teach at is here, so I see my yard only in week-ends.

I'm sorry your parents divorced, mine too and I know how it feels like.

Tuesday 16th of September 2008 05:25:28 PM

All of these pictures are amazing. I hate it when I hear Americans or Western Europeans say that East Europe is horrible or ugly. Personally I think it's about the same. I really hope someday I can travel through the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania because these pictures are just reinforcing my beliefs. I may post some pictures later from some of my travels in America but I don't think they're anything special. :p

mike111
Tuesday 23rd of September 2008 05:44:59 PM
Welcome back kenny!

I agree. I wish it wasn't so either, though their ignorance isn't totally their fault. Eastern europe is often portrayed in movies or other as poverty stricken, 3rd world countries with dangerously high crime-rates still living under soviet influence with a minority population of vampires. Unfortunately our history books do not cover eastern europe post cold war. So Americans are given a skewed notion of what eastern europe really is. I guess its up to you and I to tell them different.:D

Here are some pictures of where I live. We rent farm land but are really the only people that live on it. It is very peaceful and I especially enjoy this time of year. I may add more but here are 3.

This picture is from me standing next to the house looking away from the road you see in the next picture.

In this picture. The house that is way out there in the distance is across the street from our mailbox! Not sure why it is soo small.

Wow I'd love to live in New England someday. I've never seen leaves change color and some of the landscape up there is just beautiful.

Sorry to have to disagree with you Kenny. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England

New England is a region of the United States located in the northeastern corner of the country, consisting of the modern states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.[6]

In one of the earliest English settlements in the New World, English Pilgrims fleeing religious persecution in Europe first settled in New England in 1620, in the colony of Plymouth. In the late 18th century, the New England colonies would be among the first North American British colonies to demonstrate ambitions of independence from the British Crown, although they would later oppose the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain.

In the 19th century, it played a prominent role in the movement to abolish slavery in the United States, hosted the first pieces of American literature and philosophy, was home to the beginnings of free public education, and was the first region of the United States to be transformed by the North American Industrial Revolution.[7]

Speaking of which, I teach an optional class called American Culture and Civilization and today my students were supposed to talk about American food.
The first thing they answered when I asked if they knew what kind of food do Americans eat they said McDonalds and KFC.

Dominick_Korshanyenko
Thursday 06th of November 2008 06:16:28 PM
Kind of true kind of not. I never eat at McDonalds or KFC because its not very good and its terrible for you. But many other Americans do. But don't underestimate American food. My definition of an American meal is a steak with corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, fresh baked rolls, and some kind of desert. Many Americans like to eat at restaurants instead of at home but with the economic problems we've been having lately they eat at home more.

Kenny is 100% right about american foods. Seafood, steak, chicken, etc. are a part of real american dishes. Mcdonalds and kfc are garbage and taste like it too. Your students are wrong but I can see why they would have this impression with all the advertisements et al.

How's it going Catalin. It is nice to see you back on the forum. Btw, thanks for the draw in our chess game. :) You had a big advantage in the endgame. Only after about 5 minutes deciding my next move I noticed your draw offer.

Superb pictures Catalin! Thanks so much for posting them. Please feel free to post as many pictures as you want.

Biserica Neagră is one of my favorite landmarks in Braşov. I use a picture of it as my gmail avatar. :p

I read that there is a legend where a builder was annoyed by a local child and he immured the child into the wall or something like that. I am curious to hear if you heard this story as a child?

The carpaţi look amazing in your pictures. I remember you describing to me last winter how they looked with snow on their tops.

The hollywood sign is quite funny.

Walking to the bus the other day, I was fortunate enough to have to wait for the light in the middle of park ave. As always, I was consumed by the city lights and took this picture. You've seen this picture before, but this time it is at night. Scroll to my initial post to compare if you want. I took others which didn't come out so good. I have to be quite still when taking night pictures with my cell phone.
