Romanian Game 5: It's finally here! Yay!:) Here's how Romanian Game 5 works.
I changed my mind so here's how it works.

You are lost in Bucharest and are enjoying the lovely sights. With your friends you notice many buildings and places. The first person points out a beautiful building or place then the other person says a place to the right or left of that place. Sounds easy enough right? Oh and translate everything and don't forget to celebrate. :)

I'll start:

Vizitez un spital. Vizitezi spitalul?
I see a hospital. Do you see the hospital?

Lina

Kenny, I want to tell you I don't orientate myself so well!! It's difficult for me to find my way so it is almost impossible for you to reach a certain destination if you consider my advice:D

Kenny, how can I get to the hospital;)/ Cum ajung la spital?

Lina
Wednesday 19th of December 2007 01:11:03 AM

Mike, what is your opinion about this game? As you can see, we are down to two players in all the games:D, except this one where is no players:)

Honestly, I must admit that I don't completely understand how the game goes. I was waiting for it to be played a couple times before jumping in.

It looks like it will be a good game, I just don't know what to do.

Ok I looked at my post again and realized that i explained this game terribly. ;) Here's a better explanation.

The first person says "Vizitez ______" then asks "Vizitezi _______ ?"

Vizitez un spital. Vizitezi spitalul?

The next person then says "Da, este la stânga/la dreapta de ________"

Da, este la dreapta de biblioteca.

I hope that was easy enough to understand. Oh and translate all of it! Lina if there is a mistake please correct it and I have a question.

Which of these three verbs should I use for to see and is there a difference between them?

A vedea
A viziona
A vizita

Lina
Sunday 13th of January 2008 02:30:29 AM
Kenny, mă bucur să te văd din nou!/Glad to see you again!

a vedea = to see - I see the hospital
a viziona = to watch - I watch a movie
a vizita = to visit - I visit the museum!

So, let's play the game;)

Yes, it is next to the University.
Da, este lângă universitate.

I see the University. Do you see the University?

mike111
Sunday 20th of January 2008 09:22:10 AM
Good Idea! :tu

Victoria Palace? Nu văd Victoria Palace. Unde vezi Victoria Palace?

Would it be incorrect to say "Victoria Palace-ul" to include the definite article?

Lina
Monday 21st of January 2008 01:37:31 PM

Palatul Victoria

Well, go straight away and then turn left. It's behind the University Square.
Este in spatele Pieţei Universităţii.

I see the University Square. Do you see it?

Don't worry Avaldi:), the library is in the center of the town.

It is no need to use the conjuction "să"

Yes, I see the palace. It is in front of the town hall.
Do you see the town hall?

Da, văd palatul. Este în faţa primăriei.
Vezi primăria?

Simeon_C
Friday 14th of March 2008 11:30:07 AM
I see my mistake Lina, I was thinking lângă meant 'next' rather than 'near'. In English it sounds better to say 'next to the 'than 'next the'. Thank you for the correction.

Da, văd primăria. Este la stânga de statul vechi.
Yes, I see the town center. It is left of the old statue.

Vezi statul vechi?
Do you see the old statue?

We cannot translate word by word, like Mike's sentence :

El are o mustaţă = He has one(or two;)) mustache - incorrect

He has a mustache = El are mustaţă

El are o mustaţă neagră = He has a black mustache

Vezi statuia veche?/Vezi vechea statuie?

No, I don't see the old statue! Where is it and what this statue represent?
Nu, nu văd statuia veche! Unde este şi ce reprezintă această statuie?

Simeon_C
Thursday 20th of March 2008 12:21:51 PM

(The old statue represents a famous poet.)
(If you don't see the old statue, look for the market.)
(Do you see the market?)

Lina
Saturday 22nd of March 2008 04:39:23 PM
Foarte bine Simeon. Din ce în ce mai bine!/Very well Simeon. Better and better!

to look for = a căuta
a privi = to look at/to watch

*Dacă nu vezi statuia, caută piaţa.

Well, this a good sign! Now I see the old statue. It is in the middle of the market. Thanks!
Ei bine, acesta este un indiciu bun. Acum văd statuia, este în mijlocul pieţei. Mulţumesc!

But what is this great building next to the forest? Do you see the forest?:)

Simeon_C
Sunday 23rd of March 2008 05:08:17 AM

(Lina, I don't understand why the word is caută and not cauţi in my sentence.)

(I see the forest, it is bigger than the forest in my town.)
(But I don't see the building. What is the colour of the building?)

Lina, thank you for your corrections. I think I might have made some mistakes as I am trying to use sentences that I'm not completely familiar with.

Lina
Tuesday 25th of March 2008 11:43:50 PM

*sentence = propoziţie

In your sentence you are suggesting something, in direct speech, like an imperative:

Caută piaţa/Look for the market

Can you see the difference?

You look for the market and I look for the post office.
Tu cauţi piaţa şi eu caut oficiul poştal.

The color of the building is gray. There is a river behind the building. Do you see the river?
Culoarea clădirii este gri. Există un râu în spatele clădirii. Vezi râul?

I'm practicing cases and I just wanted to confirm that I understand the cases in your sentence above.

(I don't see the river, but I have passed by a gray building two hours ago. Is it an old building?)

Lina
Thursday 27th of March 2008 05:37:30 PM

You and your cases:D

Your example are extremely good! I think you know even better than me:)

Vezi indicatoarele rutiere?

Yes, it is an old castel. Long time ago it was a strategic fortress. Turn left and follow the road signs. Do you see them?

Simeon_C
Saturday 29th of March 2008 10:48:21 PM
(I see the castel and the river. I see the road signs, but where would you want me to go?)

Lina
Friday 04th of April 2008 12:15:08 AM

*Dar unde vrei să mă duci?

I want you to reach the castle! The entrance is through a wooden bridge. Can you see the bridge?

Vezi podul?

Simeon_C
Wednesday 09th of April 2008 12:18:05 PM
Da văd podul de lemn. Podul e vechi şi brun. Îmi e frică când gândesc despre voi traversa podul.

Mă doreşti să voi traversa podul?

(Yes I see the woden bridge. The bridge is old and brown. I am scared when I think about crossing the bridge.)

(Do you wish me to cross the bridge?)

*Lina, thank you for correcting me, I think I made a few mistakes here as well.

Lina
Thursday 10th of April 2008 12:42:05 PM

Vezi pilonii?

Yes, I want you to visit the castle. You have to cross the bridge. Don't worry, on each side there are pylons for retaining. Do you see the pylons?

Simeon_C
Friday 11th of April 2008 11:28:30 AM
I see Lina, so "Îmi e frică când mă gândesc că voi traversa podul." is like saying (I am scared when I think me crossing the bridge), the word "despre" is not used in this situation.

Da, văd pilonii şi nu sunt sigur. Stii o mai sigur intrare?
(Yes, I see the pylons and I'm not reassured. Do you know of a safer entrance?)

Lina
Saturday 12th of April 2008 12:19:00 AM
You are right. This is a good observation!/Ai dreptate.

Vezi poarta?

There is no other entrance. I have crossed the bridge and nothing happened. Right behind the gate is the interior yard. Do you see the castle gate?

Simeon_C
Sunday 13th of April 2008 01:10:56 PM

Vezi copacul?

(I have found some courage and I have crossed the bridge. Thank you for your inspiration, I couldn't have done it without you.)

(Now I see the gate and the interior courtyard. It is more beautiful than I had anticipated/expected. I see a tree in the middle of the courtyard. Do you see the tree?)

Yes, there are many trees, but I wonder why you didn't see the well from the middle of the yard. It is legendary!

Simeon_C

You didn't see them, yet? Most of all I have enjoyed the Knight's Hall, but I don't know to tell you where it is exactly. Somewhere in the West wing of the castle. Do you know to get there?

Simeon_C
Thursday 08th of May 2008 11:25:42 AM

(I don't know how to get there. Is the entrance to the right of the fountain or to the left?)

Lina
Saturday 17th of May 2008 07:03:50 PM

Păcat, pozele sunt reuşite!

Intrarea este la dreapta fântânii. De acolo mai este o distanţă mică.

The entrance is to the right of the fountain. From there it is a small distance.

Mergând de-a lungul râului am văzut un mic sat. Ai văzut satul?

Going along the river I saw a little village. Do you see the village?

mike111

Behind the small village, there is a big village. Do you see the big village?)
