| Resources for Learning - Online The Save Gaelic forum (thanks to Diarmuidh for the link): http://www.savegaelic.org/forum/ Gaelic phonology is difficult so I would start here: http://www.akerbeltz.org/fuaimean/fuaimean.htm#Beurla Introduction to written language + links: http://www.omniglot.com/writing/gaelic.htm I've tried some of the lessons the above page links to and this is my favourite so far: http://www.contemporarypoetry.com/brain/lang/ Edit: This one is very good too. The content reminds me of Teach Yourself Gaelic but is a bit more grammatical: http://www.taic.btinternet.co.uk/ But this one is probably better used as revision: http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/alba/foghlam/beag_air_bheag/index.shtml A page of links to learners' material: http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/ionnsachadh/ Beginners' lessons in German: http://www.hp.europe.de/kd-europtravel/gaelic/gaelic0.htm I haven't found any better dictionaries so far (this one is only in Gaelic -- select 'Beurla' to translate from English to Gaelic and 'Gŕidhlig' to translate from Gaelic to English): http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/faclair/sbg/lorg.php Books/CDs Teach Yourself Gaelic -- Boyd Robertson and Iain Taylor ISBN: 0071418849 Read reviews etc.: amazon.com page I'm using this book and it's a very good introduction so far (a couple of minor improvements could be made, such as the order in which they introduce different phrases, but nothing major). I've heard from a couple of more advanced Gaelic learners that it's a good beginner's resource, as well. If you want the new version of this book, with CDs, make sure you get the one with the ISBN above. I'll edit and add more links as I find them, and some book recommendations. If you know any, please post them =) | |

| - Gun robh math agad / Tapadh leat a Ashlee! Is tňiseachair mi ach tha Gŕidhlig na h-Eireann agam. One thing that really upsets me is how the world is become more and more the same and many of use are loosing our dialects and languages *snif* | |

| - The SaveGaelic forum has been taken down. Their website is still there and going strong, but without the forum. Wish I knew why. | |

| - The SaveGaelic forum was taken down last year because the guy who owned the website (and spoke no Gaelic at all, funnily) wanted to sell it for quite a large sum, and then some people on the forum started to give their opinions about that, and obviously he did not like it. There is a new and independent international Gaelic forum, I\'ve linked it in my new posting... Some remarks to the links above: http://www.hp.europe.de/kd-europtravel/gaelic/gaelic0.htm is not recommended at all, it contains lots of mistakes, and the person is obviously not interested in correcting them, although several people offered corrections. http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/faclair/sbg/lorg.php You should not use this online dictionary until you have a good basic vocabulary and know some of the basic structures and sentence patterns of Gaelic. It often lists a lot of words as a search result, but completely without explanation of how to use them. Some of the words are rather weird or outdated, they were gathered from various sources. | |
