nosotros, nosotras (we)
vosotros, vosotras (you plural)
ellos, ellas (they), ustedes (you plural, formal)

Second Conjugation Verbs:

Verbs that end in -er are conjugated in simple present tense by dropping the -er ending from the infinitive and adding the appropriate ending from below:

pableras28
Sunday 28th of August 2005 06:56:45 AM
Jajajaja, chelle73. No es "yo cabo", éste es un chiste muy común entre los hispanohablantes, porque "caber" es un verbo irregular.

El verbo caber se conjuga así en el presente de indicativo:

Yo quepo
cabes
Él/ella cabe
Nosotros/as cabemos
Vosotros/as cabéis
Ellos/as caben

Y así en pasado simple de indicativo:

Yo cupe
cupiste
Él/ella cupo
Nosotros/as cupimos
Vosotros/as cupísteis
Ellos/ellas cupieron

Y lo mismo pasa con el verbo "saber", ¡¡¡¡pero no digas "yo sepo"!!!! Es "yo sé". :D

Un post divertido, desde luego. Yo me he reído bastante mientras lo escribía. :D:D

Siguiente verbo: proteger > yo

Ahora un nuevo reto: intentad formar una frase sencilla con el verbo conjugado en cuestión, y si queréis usar además los verbos anteriores, pues mejor. Si queréis, intentad aventuraros y conjugar el verbo en varias personas.

¡A ver qué tal sale! :p

Now, a new challenge: try to make a simple phrase with the aforementioned conjugated verb, and if you also want to use the previous verbs, it would be better. If you wish, venture yourself and conjugate the same verb in several forms of the present tense.

Let's see what will come out! :p

In spanish, in irregular verbs in present tense, first and second person of plural normaly stay regular. This is very important. Remmember it. :D

Next one:

practicar (to practice) > nosotros

Do I just have to memorize which verbs are irregular or should that come with time?

Caramelicious
Tuesday 30th of August 2005 03:35:42 AM
Basket, in my experience, I started learning Spanish in school. So of course they didn't let us get by with trying to let the irregular verbs "come" to us. We had to memorize them, lol, this may not seem fun, but it will probably save time. But on the other had, when I started to learn French, because I didn't want to learn how I learned in school with all of the boring memorization, I just let it come to me. I was corrected many many many many times before it finally stuck that something was irregular and doesn't follow the pattern. So, from my point of view, it is kind of your choice. Do what you want, each to his/her own, but each of the methods have their pro's and their con's ;).

Caramelicious: I was afraid that this would be the answer. As much as I want to learn spanish as a child would, without learning the parts of speech (I hate to memorize) it seems that at times it is necessary. Sooo, I now have to learn or re-learn the parts of speech, too... bummer! I'm going to need a lot more help than I thought ;^)

It's not "perteneszco" but pertenezco ;)

A lot of verbs ending in CER are conjugated like this:

OFRECER (to offer)

ofrezco
ofreces
ofrece

ofrecemos
ofrecéis
ofrecen

CRECER (to grow)

crezco
creces
crece

crecemos
crecéis
crecen

OBEDECER (to obbey)

obedezco
obedeces
obedece

obedecemos
obedecéis
obedecen

Other verbs: agradecer, carecer, compadecer, padecer, parecer

So it's not only memorizing every verb. Just remmember this rule.

Something similar happen with the verbs that end in UCIR

LUCIR, CONDUCIR, PRODUCIR, TRADUCIR

traduzco
traduces
traduce

traducimos
traducís
traducen

The same with CONDUCIR, PRODUCIR, TRADUCIR. :D

Ok? Try to remmember these two rules. I'll post other in my next posts.

I think that we have done a lot of examples with Present tense. It's time to start conjugating in Past Tense. What do you think?

For example:

mirar (to watch)

miré
miraste
miró

miramos
mirásteis
miraron

For the students who have joined this thread recently they have a lot of examples to practise. A lot of irregular verbs are used and they have been conjugated correctly.

If you have any question you can ask us as always. There is a thread about Grammar questions. ;)

So, let's start: ;)

hablar (to speak)

lorelai

Speaking about, would a thread like this one on the subjunctive be too much to ask? :) Just a random thought...

Jeje, "hablar" is the first verb I learned how to conjugate in pretérito. :D

hablé
hablaste
habló
hablamos
hablasteis

In Spanish Z can never go before E or I. Yo should use C instead. There are some exeptions though (those are usually words that are not spanish ones)

enzima > enzyme
zinc (can be written "cinc" or "zinc") > zink
zenit (can also be written "cenit") > zenith
zigzag > zigzag

Examples:

lápiz > lápices
veloz > veloces
capaz > capaces

etc ;)

You(all, familiar) incorporated the first six ingrediants (dry ones) in one bowl, then you(all, familiar) incorporated the next
five ingredients (wet ones) in a second bowl before mixing them together, correct?

This is too funny:
1. I fully conjugate a word that doesn't exit, then

3. did I really say "wet unos"...

With all of that, I am glad that I picked the correct conjugation of mezclar... happy for small miracles :D

Ayer la policia cogió al hombre que cometió este terrible asesinato. Why al? You are talking about a specific person... thus the necessity of the definite article: a + el = al. Delinquir is to commit a crime, in a generic sense... and here you were trying to use it in a specific sense. And... terrible before.. mmm.. it sounds more natural.. I don't have an explanation for that one :p
Dicho por dennisocean
...dibujó pinturas en las paredes.Well... mmm.. pinturas are paintings, so her mother shouldn't be angry.. he's an artist! :p But.. what kids normally do is hacer dibujos en las paredes

El niño SE escondió de su madre porque dibujó en las paredes... (he hid FROM his mother)mmm.. I have to comment here, just to be sure we don't have a misunderstanding. Thanks for correcting dennisocean's sentence.
To make it easier, I'll show with colors what part of the sentence relates to what:
El niño se escondió de su madre. = The kid hid himself from his mother.

Hola a todo :)

Volverse loco? :s That verb doesn`t end in -er, -ir, or -ar! :( I am not advanced enough to conjugate a verb in more than the present tense either. Since this is a game for beginners, I can do whatever I want, right? :) I will conjugate another verb, and then let Leo`s verb go to the person after me :)

That verb doesn`t end in -er, -ir, or -ar!You are right, it doesn't end in those. But look at this:
volverse. I'll use an example, a basic one, to go on this. The French verb s'appeler. If I'm not mistaken it's something called a pronominal verb. [I can be wrong, of course, and if I am, I'll use that term here... just my own terminology :D] Here, we are facing a veb of the same nature. In Spanish you make those verbs by adding -se. Then, you'll have llamarse as the equivalent to the French one. To conjugate these verbs, first drop the ending that makes it so weird and conjugate it in a "normal" way. And just as the French example, you'll have to change the pronoun in the verb. You have je m'appelle, tu t'appelle, etc. Well, that's exactly the kind of change we have to do here. Tanya has done it, and you can check those changes. She only forgot a little detail:
Originalmente dicho por Tanya
nos volvemos locos
os volvéis locos
se vuelven locosThis change is to it with the pronoun (which is in plural).
También dijo Tanya
Mi buena amiga se vuelve loca...
... y es muy serioso...¿serioso? Maybe you are trying to say: "Y esto es en serio" = And this is serios [in the sense that what you are saying is not a joke]
Originalmente dicho por Leyah
Ellos se van cuando el museo cierra.Cerrar is an irregular verb. Dejar means to leave, but in the sense of to allow, to abando, to let, to desert. The leave you are using is irse. By the way.. as we don't have a new verb to conjugate because somebody :p didn't give us one, let's irse be the next verb :)

Transplantes es la forma correcta del subjuntivo. -es es la termianción de los verbos de segunda conjugación, este es de primera (transplantar).

Transplantes is the right form of the subjunctive. -es is the ending of second conjugation verbs, and this is a fisrt conjuagation one (transplantar).
