Translations - If you need a (relatively short) text translated from preferibly English to Swedish you can post it here and I, with hopefully some others, will translate it for you as soon as possible.

I need a translation please! - How would you translate the phrase \"how come\" into Swedish? For example \"how come the boy came home so late yesterday? he always comes in time!\"

- Either you plainly use [i]varför[/i](why):
[i]varför kom pojken hem så sent igår. Han kommer (ju) alltid i tid[/i]

Then you can also use [i]vad beror det på[/i]. You use this if you want to know the cause behind the effect:
[i]Vad berodde det på att pojken kom hem så sent igår...[/i]

and you can also use [i]hur kommer det sig[/i] which i guess is the swedish equivalent to that english expression:
[i]Hur kommer det sig att pojken kom hem så sent igår...[/i]

- I\'m not that aquinted with what this really was about but 1968 there was this international student revolution or what you would call it. And \"övervintrare\" means someone who\'s been sleeping through winter. Like been in hibernation. So a revolutionary reborn or something. Makes any sense?

- perhaps this guy is being accused of being a radical or revolutionary of some sort but he states that he isn\'t.

I don\'t know really. You should ask somebody who has more insight into this :)

Literally translated:

- I think I know your kind, V.E.
- I am not sure about that, he replied, smiling. I am no 1968 hibernator.

For the 1968 thing:

1968 was the big \"left-wing-activist\" year. The occupation of the university student\'s house in Stockholm and demonstrations against the US activity in Vietnam where the PM to be Olof Palme joined in are two events associated with this year.

There were a lot of movements in the early 1970:s originating from the general left-wing streaming. People from that time and those movements, share a common culture, and you can spot them more or less easily.

Most of this died out. A \"1968 hibernator\" would be someone who supported the left-wing beliefs of the time, and still does, but not participated in any formal movements. And the speaker in the text claims he is not one of these.

- Jo, det är en skidterm. Det är att gå med fötterna vinklade utåt, så att skidorna bildar ett V. Oftast gör man det när man går uppför en backe, för annars, om man går med skidorna riktade framåt, glider man ned.

Below is my latest entry: *I have included an english translation below just in case my Swedish is so off you want to see what I am trying to say)

Jag fick nya vänner idag
Jag har varit student på skolan (eller, hur säger man \"community college\" på svenska? eller \"adult school\"?) i mer än ett år men i morse var första gången som jag fick nya vänner. Jag träffade dem i somras under min sommar kurs på spanska (nybörjare). Vi är nu klasskamratter på spanska (mellanliggande) den här termin. De är trevliga människor -- en tjej och sin killevän. De är tillsammans altid. Tjejen frågade jag om jag vill följa med dem och fikar och där kan vi studera för tisdags tenta. Vi ses på lördag, klockan fem i eftermiddagen. Jag är glad. Jag brukar finna kompisar som är äldre än mig på jobbet (och min pojkvän är ju tolv år äldre än mig). Nu har jag vänner som är nitton år som jag! Jag ser fram emot att fickar med dem.

I got new friends today
I have been a student at my school for over a year, but this morning was the first time that I made new friends. I met them last summer in my Spanish class (beginner level). We are now classmates in Spanish (intermediate level) this semester. They are nice people—a girl and her boyfriend. The are always together. The girl asked me if I would like to join them for coffee, and there (in the coffe shop) we can study for tueday’s test. We are meeting at 5pm on Saturday. I am happy. I usually make friends with people older than me at work (and my boyfriend is of course 12 years older than me). Now I have friends who are 19 years old like me! I am looking forward to having coffee with them.

Thanks in advance for your help! Also, can anyone tell me the word for \"community college\" or \'adult school\"? My school is one that offers only lower division courses and then i transfer to an actual univerity as a junior. What would you call that?
