Pronunciation - I'm having real difficulty pronouncing a few Swedish words (and I've only come across about 100 so far), so I figured that I might as well post them here. To be honest, I'm not sure whether anyone can recommend anything other than practicing them over and over to gradually improve my enunciation, but at the very least I figure that this list might be useful if people as new to Swedish as me want to start practicing sounds to which the English tongue is usually unaccustomed. Anyways, what follows is a list of some words and phrases - in no particular order - currently proving troublesome:

Sju – Seven
Sjutton – Seventeen
Jag skulle vilja ha – I would like to have
Jag skulle hellre vilja ha – I would rather like to have

Loads more to come, I’m sure :)

- I editet your post and corrected some misstakes you made. Please let me know if this meant something you did not intend. I think i got it right though.

- Ah, thanks for the corrections. I tried to type it out from memory, and then googled all of it to see if it turned up on any Swedish sites, etc. Anyways, I found it turned up in a few places, so I was wondering what the "...jag hellre ha..." meant in the context of a sentence like: “Kaffe tänkte jag på, men Javaprogrammering kunde jag hellre ha ägnat mig åt.”, both pragmatically and grammatically. When, or why, would you choose 'Jag skulle hellre vilja ha' over the shorter 'jag hellre ha'?

- [i]Hellre[/i] needs to be sort of "attached" to a verb. In my exampel it is attached to the verb [i]skall[/i] (past tense: skulle)

In your example it is attached the the verb [i]kann[/i] (past tense: kunde)

What diffirences them apart from that is the word order. And i seriously don't know the rules for word order in swedish :) I just speak it hehe.

So see the word [i]hellre[/i] as the english word rather.

Examples:
I would rather do that
I could rather do that
