| How do you sound in Swedish? - In analogy with [b][i][url=http://www.phrasebase.com/forum/read.php?TID=12288]this[/url][/i][/b] thread (and the similar one in the english forum) i thought it would be a great idea to create a swedish equivalent. Basically you record yourself reading a swedish text. You don\'t have to be fluent to make a try. Give your best shot. No one will mock you for it, otherwise they\'ll have to stand up against me :) Please let the rest of us know where you\'re from and what accent you have. Do you find anything particulary hard to pronounce? Let us know. | Just an attempt - Oh well, this IS difficult...but interesting! ;) So, I\'ve recorded my own voice. I must admit I\'ve tried many times before sounding like that (still sound like shit anyway)! | - No there\'s no general rule for that. Sometimes you do it for emphasizing. You should not do it at the end of every sentence. Somehow that\'s quite usual for girls to do lol :) You did great. You should work on rolling your R:s better. | |

| - What a relief! Tack Rikard! And yes, it\'s a relief knowing that there\'s no rule for that...just when I feel like doing it. That\'s ok!! The first thing I abosolutely adore about Swedish is the sound. The way you speak is so melodic...how to say!? :D Words I find particulary difficult to pronounce are tjänster och människor...words in general that have those tj/sk/stj-sound, that\'s a strange sound I\'m not used to, even if that\'s similar to the English \"sh\"...but it\'s not the same! :P I can roll R:s better, sure, but somehow when I speak Swedish I think of German maybe...and in German R:s are a bit \"hidden\", if you understand what I mean. | - I listened throug it again. It\'s not all R:s, just some. As you say you have some problems with the tj/sk/stj-sounds and perhaps also with the vovels ÅÄÖ? you\'re mumbling alot when saying \"behövde hennes tjänster\". Here\'s where i perceived your troubles with the R:s. The only word you\'re failing to say is \"särskilt\" though. Don\'t be upset by my comments, i still think you did good. I just wanted to point out areas where you can improve. | |

This was the first time I tried to read/speak Swedish out loud and your comments seem to be more than good to me! I\'m proud of it, and I want to improve! I\'ll follow your precious advices. You\'re right! That sentence wasn\'t easy: \"behövde hennes tjänster\", it was maybe embarassing to say cause I couldn\'t really \"get into\" it. | - actually it\'s the entire \"särskilt känd än\" that\'s coming out wrong. Is it any help listening to how i pronounced it? That of course requires that you can locate my pronounciation of it but since leoblooom stated i talked so fast i suppose that can be hard for you guys. | |

I know it\'s your natural way of speaking and that\'s the way it should sound, but I can\'t get it immediately, it seems like you\'re speaking too fast, though it\'s not so maybe. :P | |

| Wow - I am from England and I have a Swedish friend (ex Boyfriend), he was trying to teach me how to say Sweden in swedish which is sverige, he laughed for ages and ages. I understand very little swedish by reading it, as for actually listening to it, thats a different story.I went over there to visit him and we went to see his family, they all talked Swedish ( well of course they would being Swedish lol). I only managed to understand a cpl of words if that lol. I love the Swedish language and I love the Swedish accent, in fact i love almost evrything about Sweden besides some of the food u guys eat lol. I am not sure the English accent is designed to speak Swedish but if i keep trying my best to learn, I might be able to speak some Swedish that will be understood lol. I find that a lot of Swedish words dont sound how they look if u understand me, well i will keep trying to learn and one day i might just move over there and impress evyone :P | |

| - I\'m glad to hear you like my contry so much :) From the swedish speaking englishmen i\'ve encoutnered (or seen on tele) i can gather that it\'s quite hard to permanently rid yourself of the english accent when speaking swedish. It\'s most noticeable on the R\'s (which we roll much more). I kind of like an english accent anyway so don\'t be taken back by that. I can agree many things aren\'t pronounced the way they look, most of these are probably though due to your english background. With swedish as your \"standard\" most things are pronounced the way they are spelled (with some obvious exceptions such as \"de/dem\" being pronouced \"dom\" etc.) If it makes you happier i can tell you that it\'s the same in english :) | |
