| - I can only say what i've done myself but maybe it will help. > Learn single words at every opportunity. > learn simple phrases after you've mastered a few words. > When you speak to swedish people, use swedish words whenever you can, even if it's just 'Tack' or 'Hej' to start with. It's not uncommon for swedes to hear a mixture of english and swedish, so don't be afraid to mix it occasionally; you'll soon gain more vocabulary as you go on, as well as confidence. > Listen to as much swedish radio and TV as possible. > Read swedish text constantly even if you don't understand it... gradually you will start to understand little and then more. > One important point, If you feel like you aren't getting very far, keep going as this happens to everyone, suddenly you understand more then you thought you did. > The older you are, generally the more difficult it is to learn new things, if you've ever heard the expression "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" you'll understand what I mean, however that's just due to adopted laziness, the more you study though the less lazy your learning abilities become. > Lastley, don't give up, you will get there eventually. Lycka till. :) | |
