Movie quote quiz - translations - Ok, figured it might be cool to try Rikard's song quiz idea with famous movie quotes. All the usual rules apply - any translations in this thread, answers in another.

Aight, I'll try and kick this thread off:

Citera 1:

\"Säg hej till min lilla vän!\"

[Edit: Thanks for the corrections Rikard :)]

- it should probobly be \"säg\" and \"lilla vän\". Hmm i think i recognize it. Can't place it though.

another one - \"hasta la vista sötnos\" (: pretty recognizable i think
RikardMonday 03rd of April 2006 06:53:06 AM
- yeah. quite :)
mrbicreviseMonday 03rd of April 2006 04:21:24 PM
- Probably really bad Swedish, but here's another:

\"Tycker du lycklig, punk? Nå, gör du?\"
MathieuMonday 03rd of April 2006 08:37:19 PM
- Ah, that must be from:
\"Du vet vad det här betyder, va? Din tur är skit slut.\" :D

(does anyone have a proper but faithful Swedish translation for that one? :p)

- Ja, sådan en tidlös film :D
RikardTuesday 04th of April 2006 01:54:20 AM
- and what is the proper english quote?

pete. \"känner du dig lycklig\". lyckas is \"to succeed\".

pete. \\"känner du dig lycklig\\". lyckas is \\"to succeed\\".
Thanks. :) One of these days I might just get it right first time...

- Du känner inte till kraften av mörksidan!

Just too bad Swedish isn't cheesy enough as to dub movies.. would've loved to hear that :p

RikardTuesday 04th of April 2006 03:07:49 AM
- As you'll soon probobly figure out, swedish is not the language for cool quotations haha. Everything sounds silly. At least any cool english sentence you try to translate.

Perhaps because we phrase thingss rather differently in swedish. So when you translate it directly it ends up weird.
MathieuWednesday 05th of April 2006 12:40:44 AM
- I think they are pretty cool in fact :p Actually just as lame as they\'d sound in Dutch. \"Je kent de kracht van de donkere kant niet!\" Nah ok, that one is a even lamer :D

Vi är inte här för att vi är fria, vi är här för att vi inte är fria
Hmm that one ended up pretty ok :)

pete. \\\"känner du dig lycklig\\\". lyckas is \\\"to succeed\\\".
I can\'t find the \'answers\' thread :S
I hope this isn\'t too much of a spoiler to ask this here, but I think everyone already knows it...

So, does Swedish not use \'lycklig\' to mean \'happy\', not \'lucky\'? I would have thought \'lyckosam\' would be the word to use?

- På grund av att inget lina endast ville vara välkänd, jag ska skriva en få, så du kan binda dem tillsammans.
Because no single line may be well-known enough on its own, I\'ll put a few, and hoepfully you can piece it together.

-----

\"Du är inte dina kakhis, du är inte din job\"

\"Ni är inte speciell. Ni är inte en unik snö-kristall. Ni är de alla-le, alla-dansa crap av världen\"

\"Vem är T**** D*****?\"

\"Jag ville tycker om att tacka den Academy!\"

\"-Om skulle du kämpa én historiska person, vem ville det vara?
-Gandhi!\"

-----

How do you spell \'shit\' in Swedish? I know how to say it, but... :p

RikardSunday 08th of October 2006 11:58:29 AM
- yes lycklig is happy so lyckosam or tursam would be a better choice of words.
