- Let's not forget the dulcet tones of Roxette :D.

'Sverige' is a pretty good Kent song, as is 'Blćjeans' which gave us that classic "Varför fćr jag inte pć mig dina blćjeans?" lyric.

Hmm, a little off topic again - why not? :p
According to me your name is put together by the two elements rîk and hard which means rich, mighty and hard, strong-willed :D

- This thread is interesting, because I love music and I like Swedish music. I listen to many Swedish bands but they tend to sing in English. However, I've been in Sweden last week and bought some Swedish CDs and also the new Lasse Lindh one, singing in Swedish. It has lyrics too, so I guess it's useful. Not for me that I can't speak a word yet. I join you guys, the group of Swedish students!

- I also enjoy this topic....I KNEW the title of the topic was just a cover-up, to avoid people to understand what you really are doing in the Swedish forum :p ;)

I think "Rikard" means..yes, "rich" and "hard". Hard can be translated to "stone". "Rik" rhymes with....oh no :p lol, sorry, that wasn`t what I meant...lol, I must leave....now :p
RikardSaturday 08th of October 2005 05:23:32 AM
- Just rub it in will you. Ok, I admit. I didn't really bother to check up what my name mean. I just had a "hunch".

Natalie rhymes with barbari :P

- I will not try to recommend any modern artists performing contemporary music, as my fellow Swedes here on phrasebase have already done such a terrific job doing that. Instead I will add some recordings of Swedish music of a different kind that, if for no other reason, may be of interest simply because of the artist who performed on these recordings.

Jussi Björling was one of the 20th century’s most sought after tenors in the world, and hailed by many as the foremost tenor of our time. Unfortunately he died young, at an age of 49, but his recordings have become treasured classics that retain their popularity to this very day, 45 years after the great tenor passed away.

Before he died Jussi recorded several Swedish folk songs, among others the emotionally powerful and vocally intense “Till Havs” (To the Sea), which became a sort of trade mark song for him. He also performed “Land du välsignade” to great acclaim, and his rendition of the well known Christmas song “O Holy Night” (“O Helga Natt”, recorded 8 February 1959, and sung in Swedish) remain one of the best ever recorded.

Considering Jussi Björlings stature, hardly anyone in Sweden does not know who Björling was, and the wide availability of his recordings both in Sweden and abroad I doubt anyone interested will have any trouble finding these songs. But just to be on the safe side I will write down the address to the Jussi Björling Society’s website, where information about Björling and short audio clips of some of his many recordings can be found. It should be possible to view the site both in Swedish and English, but I am not 100% sure of this.

Well, good luck!

Yours sincerely,
Nils

- Finding recordings of songs for children would help you learn, too, I think. They're simple and generally pretty slow. I have recordings of Gullefjun (my favorite) and of a song about a troll mother...can't remember the name, though.
RikardMonday 05th of December 2005 11:37:07 PM
- "Det var en kyckling som hette Gullefjun, som skulle ut pć promenad.... ":D

I never did sing that song very often though.

But i did sang

"När trollmor har lagt sina elva smć barn, och bundit fast dem i svansen.... " :D

- Since I\'m the strange kid from the block, I recommend old Swedish schlagers, LOL!
Got tons of \'em. And it can be a good way to learn to pronounce correctly, or just learn more words in Swedish... :)

/Kris, who himself listens to German songs, and has been taught many things, just from songs...
SharmorThursday 26th of April 2007 08:55:12 PM
- I dont know of very many Swedish bands. I know a few like abba (who dont sing very often in swedish lol), i know anders johannson who i like but he also sings in english. There is Lena Phillipsson too who does sing in swedish and i like some of her songs. I love the song Boten Anna by Basshunter but thats the only song of theirs i have heard. I am more into rock music which isnt very good to sing too lol. If anyone knows of any really good swedish bands to listen to, tell me here. But you can forget about The Hives cos i think they are awful. Sorry if anyone likes them but thats just not my taste at all lol, but anything else i will consider and i will let you all know if i like them or not lol.

- ...My recommendation frćn andra sidan viken: the melancholic ballad \"Höstvisa\" with lyrics (rhymes! I <3 rhymes!) by Tove Jansson and music by some Erna Tauro. Probably various performers.

(The only Höstvisa I find on Youtube isn\'t the same song.)

- Hey all!
I normally spend my time in the Finnish forums, but I saw this topic and just couldn\'t resist!

My favorite band at the moment is from Sweden, and all their songs are in Swedish!

Dungen is a psychedelic/folk rock band that just released a new album (Tio Bitar)

I dunno if it\'s what you\'re looking for, but I just thought I\'d throw it out there!

Personally, I prefer Siw Malmkvist, Danish singer Gitte HĂŠnning and her Swedish songs, Povel Ramel, Anita Lindblom, Towa Carson, Lill-Babs, Alice Babs, Kirsti Sparboe (of course her Swedish hits!), and so so so many more! ;)

But when it comes to \"new\" music, who can resist Nanne Grönvall? :)

- Hello everybody. I want to ask about the Swedish song, whose lyrics has been written below. Yesterday, I\'ve bought an old cassette that\'s first produced in 1977. When I listenned the song, I felt myself in a magical situation. I very much wonder what she is saying. I thank you very much.

- Cultural note on this - the song is from the collection \"Fredmans epistlar\" by Carl Michael Bellman. Many of his songs are well-known, many Swedes know them by heart, others are less known. \"Fredmans epistlar\" revolves around the clock-maker Fredman, his friends and the environments of his whereabouts (which are not always the most decent).

The language is ancient, some words are not generally understood today and others have changed their meaning.

I take the liberty of correcting your Swedish:

\"Jag hade aldrig hört om ham föran.\" This is a little Danish/Norwegian..
In Swedish it is \"Jag hade aldrig hört om honom förut\", or even \"Jag hade aldrig hört talas om honom förut\"

You are good, Ulven!
