Word Game - Ok. I thought i would try to play this game with you. It's very funny. It does require though that you can be honest :)

The game starts with me thinking about a certain word. I then list to you the first letter in that word.

For exampel. I might be thinking about Banan (Banana). I then say B.

Now the next person in line will think of a word beginning with B and then list the second letter in that word. For instance the next person might think of Balans (balance) and then lists the letter A.

After this the next person must think of a word starting with Ba and then list a 3rd letter and so on. Now here's the thing. If you accidently form a correct word while giving the next letter you're out :). Also if the next person guesses what word you we're thinking about.

For example. If the next person thinks of the word Bara (just/only) and then lists the word R he/she will lose the game since Bar is a word (Bar). Only of course if the next persons realizes that the previous person actually did form a real word.

When somebody fails we start on a new word so nobody has to be left outside :)
RikardMonday 15th of August 2005 04:46:29 AM
- I've come up with a word and challnges you. The first letter is:

T

Now the next person either list a second letter from a word he or she's thinking about or try to guess the word i was thinking about (which isn't that easy this early)
MathieuMonday 15th of August 2005 06:05:58 PM
- That's interesting :)
TO

Do all declensions of verbs etc count as words?
mrbicreviseTuesday 16th of August 2005 01:01:06 AM
- TOL (not a word that I'm aware of, well, hope so anyway)
RikardTuesday 16th of August 2005 01:17:18 AM
- Yes all conjugatios counts as legal words but not names.
TOLE
RikardTuesday 16th of August 2005 03:01:53 AM
- Oh and Btw. If you make a guess at the previous persons word and are wrong you will lose. So only guess if you're sure or you can't avoid forming a word :)

Or if you can't avoid being guessed yourself after adding a letter ;) So I guess,

TOLERANT

:)
RikardTuesday 16th of August 2005 11:41:18 AM
- Wrong hehe :)
I was thinking of TOLERABEL. Almost the same thinh i know hehe.

I don't wan't to exlude any letters so i will allow persons to form words that start with Å and Ö even though they are word of their own.

So Teup. Would you have the honour of starting the next session?
MathieuTuesday 16th of August 2005 05:01:55 PM
- Blast :p I knew I'd be better off not posting at all but as always I can't keep my trap shut.. I assume that rule it goes for the 'I' as well :)
Well, lets find out ;)

I

INGA
Word! But it was IGN, not ING, so we won't count it this time hehe
mrbicreviseWednesday 17th of August 2005 01:56:34 AM
- Whoops... :D

edit: IGNA
MathieuWednesday 17th of August 2005 02:17:21 AM
- Mja :D I så fall har jag ingen aning faktiskt, alltså vi bör vänta på någon som har det :)
mrbicreviseWednesday 17th of August 2005 02:23:06 AM
- Rimlig nog.

(Meant to be 'fair enough' -- hopefully it comes out at least roughly like that)
RikardWednesday 17th of August 2005 02:36:35 AM
- Sorry but i'mr pretty sure there is no swedish word like that. I checked my "Svenska akademiens ordlista över svenska språket" and found none. Perhaps you meant IGNO?

Alack, no; I'm afraid I just got totally confused. I was going for ingav (inspire, I think?), forgetting that in order to get there I'd need to make INGA. Oh, and also overlooking the blindingly obvious fact that no one had even typed ING in the first place.

Whoops again...
RikardWednesday 17th of August 2005 03:04:12 AM
- Ok so perhaps youshould replace your A with something else.

So far we have: IGN

MathieuWednesday 17th of August 2005 03:40:28 AM

Hey, you have that word list of yours, that's no fair :p Hmm I'm here, so I guess I am obliged to pick a letter now as well.. tricky..

XY
RikardWednesday 17th of August 2005 05:02:06 AM
- I looked in it beacuse i thought there was no such word, and i was right.

Well. While i'm at it i think the word you're thinking on is XYLOFON
MathieuWednesday 17th of August 2005 05:11:15 AM
- Not really, it was xylofoner :) There, it worked anyway, sorry, I couldn't suppress it ;)

Å
RikardWednesday 17th of August 2005 05:15:34 AM

ÅB

MathieuWednesday 17th of August 2005 05:29:45 AM

VA

Nej, inte helt. Det var vapensköld, hehe.

D
RikardWednesday 17th of August 2005 11:07:24 PM
- Ok this is going out of hand so I'm giving some new Guidelines.

Don't conjugate verbs and adjectives unless you have too.
Don't put words in plural unless you have too
Don't combine words (sammansatta ord) unless you have too
Don't make any word into another form than the root unless you have too.
En essence, try to think of an as simple form of the word you can.
MathieuThursday 18th of August 2005 02:45:33 AM
- Sounds good.. how about adding the rule that you may place as many letters as you want? Because then there's place for verbs like 'förstå' etc, which wouldn't come beyond the 'för' stage otherwise.. well, it's your game ;) I studied game design for a year though :D
RikardThursday 18th of August 2005 02:47:55 AM
- Förstå is ok anyway. The "för"-part in förstå hasn't really that much to do with the preposition "för". It's only if they have similar meaning you should avoid it.
MathieuThursday 18th of August 2005 02:50:14 AM
- But it's impossible to place the 'r', because then it would be a word.. instead you could choose to place 'rs' in a single turn, which results in 'förs', that might not be a word.. maybe it is, well, you get the idea ;)

DA, by the way :p
RikardThursday 18th of August 2005 05:11:30 AM
- No because the whole point is that you can corner persons inte being forced to form a word or make a wild guess.

So only one letter at a time.

DAT
MathieuThursday 18th of August 2005 05:18:40 AM
- If one is in a situation to be forced to form a word, then the alternative of guessing can't be too wild ;) Oh well, interesting game either way; I think it's way more educative than other games I've seen, as it involves multiple (all :p) words at the same time :D

Since it is you who posted the T, I'm just gonna guess it's DATOR you were thinking of :) Well, I don't know any long enough words with DAT anyway so I have to :)
RikardThursday 18th of August 2005 01:50:16 PM
- Well i try to avoid the obvious ones if i can. I was thinking of DATERA

The thing about this game is also that you learn words you didn't know by accidently forming them :)
MathieuThursday 18th of August 2005 09:34:57 PM
- Yeah, and I expanded my vocab starting with DAT a bit right now (doh, it figures, 'dateren' in Dutch) :)

Ö

(that's the letter of the new word, not a smiley ;))
StineThursday 18th of August 2005 09:53:20 PM
- Hehe :p

ÖV
RikardFriday 19th of August 2005 09:45:26 PM
- ÖVN

I just realized that fotbidding combined words (sammansatta ord) just limits this game so after this i will allow them. Still you should strive to not decline or conjugate any words.
mrbicreviseSaturday 20th of August 2005 12:51:10 AM
- (crosses fingers) ÖVNA
RikardSaturday 20th of August 2005 02:51:19 AM

RikardSaturday 20th of August 2005 05:15:19 AM
- What i meant is that there is no such word that begins with ÖVNA
MathieuSaturday 20th of August 2005 05:23:12 AM
- Phew :D

Then I guess övning (looked it up yesterday, would be unfair to post, but today I remember from the top of my head ;))
RikardSaturday 20th of August 2005 04:31:20 PM
- Yup that's the word.
MathieuSunday 21st of August 2005 12:47:05 AM
- How do you suppose we can make compounds (sammansatta ord)? Because halfway it'll be a word anyway so it would stop there.

Ä
RikardSunday 21st of August 2005 05:17:23 PM
- I'm just saying that you can think of them. It makes it harder for the next person to guess. Actually spelling it is a harder thing though. Maybe your idea with adding multiple letters at a time isn't that bad though.
MathieuSunday 21st of August 2005 07:49:57 PM
- But I agree you can corner people.. so with a maximum of 2 then? So that the gap can be bridged.

ÄNT

:p
RikardSunday 21st of August 2005 08:45:25 PM
- OK. Let agree on that. You can add 2 letters, if you feel like it.

ÄNTE
rach-elleFriday 16th of September 2005 11:01:11 AM
hmmmm - Are you sure there's such a word as änte______?
hmmmm.....very very tough....but unless äntelope ;) exists, dang that's a toughie!
RikardFriday 16th of September 2005 12:07:17 PM
- Yes i am sure :)

Btw. It's not Äntelop, lol
MathieuFriday 16th of September 2005 02:48:34 PM
- Uppenbarligen har inte jag någon aning heller :p
rach-elleSaturday 17th of September 2005 12:25:24 PM
hmm - Rikard, kanske du kan ger oss en ledtråd? :D
RikardSunday 18th of September 2005 01:19:52 AM
- It's a composite word. Beginning with "änter"
RikardMonday 17th of October 2005 04:39:21 AM
- the word was ÄNTERHAKE (grappling hook, or something similar)

RikardTuesday 18th of October 2005 02:04:31 AM

MeganTuesday 29th of November 2005 03:09:34 AM
- The word JÄRO doesn't exist. (I mixed up the rules.) Let's take this instead:

JÄRP
RikardTuesday 29th of November 2005 03:15:09 AM
- you must think of a word that does exist and then list the next letter in that word, without in the process spelling another already existing word.
MeganTuesday 29th of November 2005 04:09:58 AM
- Thanks! Thinking about an existing word my next letter is "P":

JÄRP

RikardThursday 01st of December 2005 03:27:44 PM

Yesi was thinking of KVIDA.
