Nice Job on the Lessons!: You could REALLY fill up the pronoun page by pointing out the difference between ang- and ng- pronouns. When to use the in-focus pronouns (ako, ikaw/ka, siya) as compared with the corresponding out-of focus pronouns (ko, mo, niya). I think the job you are doing is super, and please dont think I am being critical, but grouping Tagalog words and phrases into English language categories can be very deceiving and confusing to new students. Words can often act as either a noun, adjective, adverb, verb, etc. Additionally, there is no such thing as a "preposition" in Tagalog. It gives the false perception that Tagalog can be translated into English according to word types which really either do not exist in Tagalog, or can go into several diffferent groupings. But again, great job!

raw / daw:
I've always wondered... is there a specific rule that tells when to use 'raw' or 'daw'? 'Cause I've always just used them interchangeably..... I asked my parents, but they didn't know either -_-

Dawnlorraine
Saturday 28th of April 2007 04:45:19 AM
Raw-Daw; Rin-Din

Raw is used if the the last letter of the word before it ends with a vowel.

Example:
Sabi nila, hindi raw maganda ang daan papuntang Laguna.
According to them, the road going to Laguna is not good.

Same rule for Rin
Example:
Hindi ko rin gusto and daan papuntang Laguna.
I don't like the road going to Laguna either.

Daw and Din is used if the last letter of the word preceding it ends with a consonant.

Example:

Ayon sa kaibigan ko, may butas daw ang salawal mo.
According to my friend, there's a hole in your pants.

Din:
Ayaw din namin and daan papuntang Laguna.
We don't like the road going to Laguna either.

Pandiwa has been loing overdue, so here it is...

Pandiwa - ay bahagi ng pananalita na nagsasaad nag kilos o galaw.

Verb - part of speech that denotes movement or action.

ANG KAYARIAN NG PANDIWA
VERB COMPOSITION

Ang pandiwa sa Filipino ay nabubuo sa pamamagitan ng pagsasama ng isang salitang-ugat at isa o higit pang panlapi.

A verb in Filipino is composed by combining a root word and one or more affixes.

Ang salitang-ugat ang nagbibigay ng kahulugan sa pandiwa samantalang ang panlapi naman ay nagpapahayag ng ugnayang pansemantika ng pandiwa sa simuno o paksa ng pangungusap.

The root word gives meaning to the verb while the affix shows a semantic relationship of the verb to the subject or the theme of the sentence.

Halimbawa:

Siya ay nagdasal bago umalis ng bahay.
She prayed before leaving home.

Ang pandiwang nagdasal sa pangungusap ay binubuo ng unlaping nag na nagpakita na ang tagaganap ng kilos na isinasaad ng pandiwa, samantalang ang salitang-ugat na dasal naman ang nagpahayag ng kilos.

The verb nagdasal in the sentence is composed of the prefix nag showing that the doer of the of the act of the verb, while the root word dasal shows action.

MGA KAGANAPAN NG PANDIWA
THE ROLES OF PANDIWA

1. Kaganapang Tagaganap - Doer Role
2. Kaganapang Taga-tanggap - Receiver Role
3. Kaganapang Layon - Object Role
4. Kaganapang Kagamitan - Tool Role
5. Kaganapang Sanhi - Effect Role
6. Kaganapang Direksiyunal - Directional Role
7. Kaganapang Ganapan - Place Role

Ang Kaganapang Tagaganap at Kaganapang layon ay naipapahayag sa pamamagitan ng pariralang ng tulad sa mga sumusunod na halimbawa:

The Doer Role and Object Role are expressed by using a ng phrase like in the following examples:

1. Kinain ng bata ang mangga.(Kaganapang Tagaganap) - (The child ate the mango. (Doer Role)

2. Kumain ang bata ng mangga. (Kaganapang Layon) - The child ate the mango. (Object Role)

Ang iba pang mga kaganapan ay naipapahayag sa pamamagitan ng pariralang sa o para sa/kay tulad ng sa mga sumusunod na pangungusap:

The other roles are expressed by using the phrase for; in; to; into, etc. or for the/my/his/ like in the following sentences:

3. Bumili ako ng ilaw na kapis para sa pinsan ko. (Kaganapang tagatanggap). - I bought a Capiz lamp for my cousin. (Receiver Role)

4. Nagtanim ng gulay sa bakuran ang aming kapitbahay. (Kaganapang ganapan) - Our neighbor planted vegetables in the yard (Place role)

5. Pinunasan ko ang mga kasangkapan sa pamamagitan ng basahang malinis. (Kaganapang Kagamitan) - I wiped the furnitures using a clean rug. (Tool Role)

7. Ipinasyal ko sa Tagaytay aking mga panauhin. (Kaganapang direksiyunal) - I had my guests toured to Tagaytay. (Directional Role)

ANG KATUTURAN NG MGA KAGANAPAN
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ROLES

Ang Kaganapang Tagaganap ay ang bahagi ng panaguri na gumaganap sa kilos na isinasaad ng pandiwa. Halimbawa, sa pangungusap na:
The Doer Role is part of the predicate that does the act expressed by the verb. For example, in the sentence:

Ipinagdiwang ng mga kabataan ang unang anibersaryo ng kanilang samahang pansibiko.

The children celebrated the first anniversary of their civic association.

-Ang pariralang ng mga kabataan ay siyang nagsasaad kung sino ang gumaganap ng kilos ng pandiwa. - The phrase ng mga kabataan denotes who does the action fo the verb.

Ang Kaganapang Layon ay nagsasaad kung anong bagay o mga bagay na tinutukoy sa pandiwa. Halimbawa:
The Object Role denotes what thing or things described by the verb. Example:

Bumili ako sa Parañaque ng binurdahang husi. - I bought from Parañaque an embroidered jusi.

- Ang pariralang ng binurdahang husi ang tinukoy na binili. The phrase ng binurdahang husi denotes what was bought.

What are the uri g Sugnay Na di-makapag-iisa?: Its my homework and i cant find it in our book. sorry for disturbing..

Dawnlorraine
Monday 25th of June 2007 07:30:36 PM
Hi Gerisse,

Taga Bohol ka? Taga Bohol raba ko. Tigduaw pa ko didto sa Carmen ug sa Catigbian. Asa man ka sa Bohol?

Okay, here's my reply:
Ang Sugnay ay pangkat ng mga salitang binubuo simuno ant panaguri.

A Clause is a group of words that contain a subject and a predicate.

Mga Uri ng Sugnay:
1. Sugnay na Nakapag-iisa - Independent Clause
Ang Sugnay na Nakapag-iisa - ay binubuo ng mga salita na may simuno at panauri na nagsasaad ng ganap na kaisipan at nakakatayo nang mag-isa, samakatuwid, ito ay tinatawag ding pangungusap.

An Independent Clause - is composed of words with subject and predicate, has a complete thought and can stand by itself, therefore this is also called a sentence

2. Sugnay na Di-makapag-iisa - Dependent Clause

Ang Sugnay na Di-makapag-iisa ay pangkat ng mga salita na binubuo ng simuno at panaguri ngunit ito ay hindi nagsasaad ng ganap na kaisipan at samakatuwid, hindi nakakatayo nang mag-isa.

A Dependent Clause is a group of words with subject and predicate that does not express a complete thought, and therefore cannot stant by itself.

Mga Uri ng Sugnay na Di-makapag-iisa:
Kinds of Dependent Clause:

1. Sugnay na Pang-abay

Ang Sugnay na Pang-abay ay nagbibigay ng kaalaman kung ano ang nagyayari sa Sugnay na Nakapag-iisa. The Adverb Clause procides informationon what is going on in the Independent Clause

Halimbawa:

Pagkatapos ng palabas, pupunta tayo sa aklatan.

When the movie is over, we will go to the library.
(Dependent Clause)

2. Ang Sugnay na Pag-uri ay gumagamit ng pangkat ng mga salitang pang-uri.
An Adjective Clause uses multi- word adjectives

Halimbawa:

Ang kaibigan ko, na isang anluwagi, ay tumulong sa paggawa ng bahay ng aso ko.

My friend, who is a carpenter, helped in building my dog's house.

3. Ang Sugnay na Pangngalan ay pangkat ng mga salita na nagsisilbing pangngalan sa pangungusap.
The Noun Phrase is a group of words that serve as a noun in the sentence.

Halimbawa:
Anuman ang iniisip niya ay wala na akong pakialam.
Whatever he is thinking is not anymore my concern.

Unta nakatabang ni sa imong homework.

Uri (types):

A.Pangngalang Pambalana (common noun). Ito ay tumutukoy sa tao, pook o bagay sa pangkalahatang diwa at karaniwang nagsisimula sa maliit na titik. This refers to a person, place or thing in a general sense that always start with a small letter.

Hi jangmihoney,

Ang sa pamamagitan ng ay ginagamit kung ang kasunod na salita ay isang pangngalan o panghalip na nagsasaad ng lugar o bagay.

Halimbawa:

Naabot niya ang bunga ng bayabas sa pamamagitan ng panungkit.

panungkit bilang pangngalan (bagay)

Ang sa pamamagitan ni ay ginagamit kung ang kasunod na salita ay pangalan ng tao.

Halimbawa:
Nakabili ako ng sapatos sa pamamagitan ni Maria nang lumuwas siya sa Maynila.
