Thank you for those nice words Maganda :)

As a wise man once said all you can do is try:) after all if you do not try you definitely do not learn anything and without trying you do not learn where one has gone wrong. :)

I am waiting with bated breath for the next post on this thread,so I can try once again and learn some more :)

Salamat Maganda :)

Yeah, I know in some way what you mean, it is strange that so many people seem to ask to learn your language but hardly anyone actually attempts any exercises that are left for them to do.
Unless it is because they are to slow in getting to the exercise and do not like anyone else doing it first?? we are a funny race, us human beings lol.

However as the old saying goes " You can lead a horse to water, but you can not make it drink!"

Well if I am honest I do not believe in luck, but there is a first time for everything lol but let me see how I manage this go :)

I am so sorry. = Ipagpatawad mo

I'm sorry, I am late = Paumanhin, nahuli ako

Don't worry = huwag kang mag-alala

Sorry for letting you wait = Paumanhin sa iyong paghihintay (not quite I know but a great bit of lateral thinking lol)

No problem, It is fine = walang problema

Well that is my attempt at the 5 :). Hopefully I did not do too bad :)

lol Maganda :D Yeahhhhh it was quite a shock to see that you have finally replied lol but it was a nice one :D

And thank you for leaving me a few more to have a go at :) every little one helps, although these might of been a little easier if the Tagalog phrases list was back up and working. It's been missing since the last update on this site, but anyways heres goes nothing loooool

I have a question - Mayroon akong sa tanong

May I ask a question - Puwede hingin ba tanong ko

What is it - Ano ba na

Can you speak more slowly - puwede bang mas bagalan mo ang pagsasalita (the only one that I actually knew lol)

Please do not speak so fast - Maari ba gawain walang pagsasalita

Anyways thats my attempt lol I hope I did better than the 1 out 5 I am expecting but I doubt it lol

LOL....

Nice try Gan1968....lol

Yeah I understand, because I am trying to work on Tagalog Phrases. Just hang in there.. Consider this as a real test of how much you know Tagalog...lol

Ok let's give the right answer:

I have a question:
Mayroon akong tanong. ( SA was not needed)

May I ask a question?:
Maaari bang magtanong?/ Pwede bang magtanong?

What is it?:
Ano iyon?/ Ano 'yon?

Can you speak more slowly.:
Pakibagalan mo ang iyong pagsasalita./( or your answer (Gan1968) will be fine.)

Please do not speak so fast.:
Huwag kang magsalita nang masyadong mabilis.

Keep up the good work!!!

Looooooool I was right, I did only get 1/5 right not counting the near miss lmbo. But...... well learning is trial and error and I can honestly say that I will definitely make a few errors, until the day I either become fluent or give up completely lol

Anyways here comes my next attempt and I believe that I might of done a little better this go lol ;)

They are my friends. = Sila ay kaibigan ko

I am glad to meet you. = Kinagagalak kong makilala ka

Where do you live? = Saan ka nakatira ?

I live in ______. = Nakatira ako sa…………

How many are there in your family? = Ilan ang pamilya mo?

They are my friends. > Ang mga iyan ay mga kaibigan mo.
I am glad to meet you. >(Don't know the word for meet?)

Where do you live? > Saan ka ba nakatira?

I live in ______.> Nasa _____ ay Nakakatira ako

How many are there in your family?> Ilang kamaganak ba sa pamilya mo?

Your answers are quite right Sk8More! Though I'd like to add in some variations and corrections on some of the translation..

They are my friends.- Sila ang mga kaibigan ko.
I am glad to meet you. - Natutuwa akong makilala ka.

Where do you live? - Saan ka nakatira?

I live in ______.> Nakatira ako sa ____.

How many are there in your family?> Ilan kayo sa pamilya niyo?

Ah! I see thanx for the corrections.

1)
Ang mga iyan ay mga kaibigan mo.
Sila ang mga kaibigan ko.
They are my friends.

For this one I thought the subject was more of in the way of "them that are there" as if pointing, rather that literal "They". Is that ok to do?

2)I am glad to meet you. - Natutuwa akong makilala ka.
Thanx. I'll archive that one. Can't believe I haven't known that.

3)Saan ka ba nakatira?
Saan ka nakatira?
Where do you live? -

I assume that the ba particle doesn't affect the sentence much, right?

4)Nasa _____ ay Nakakatira ako
Nakatira ako sa ____.
I live in ______.-

I just completely messed that one up. Oops!

5)Ilang kamaganak ba sa pamilya mo?
Ilan kayo sa pamilya ni(n)yo?
How many are there in your family?-

Why is "kayo" in there? I know it could be a polite form but it seems to translate to something like:

How many you/y'all in your family.

Thanx Again!

Hello Sk8More
1)In Filipino, we use "iyan" for things. Though it's okay to use "iyan" to refer to people depending on the level of conversation you are having. You're original translation was "Ang mga iyan ay mga kaibigan mo." We can correct it by saying, "Iyan ang mga kaibigan ko" though it would mean something like, "These are my friends."

And as for your usage of the word "mo", it is grammatically wrong since "mo" is a pronoun equal to the use of "you" in English. The sentence is showing possession/relation so its supposed to be "ko" which means something like me/I.

If you're going to translate the sentence properly for formal & more grammatically correct usage, it should be "Sila ang mga kaibigan ko."

2) You're welcome. :)

3)Yup, it really doesn't though when being polite, you remove "ba".

4)practice makes perfect. It's cliche but it's true. :)

5)Well, the beauty of languages. We can't translate everything from this language to this or else, the meaning would be different.

The word "Kamag-anak" literally means "relative". Here in the Philippines, we don't really use kamag-anak to refer to our own family, we just call them nanay(mother), tatay(father), Ate(older sisters), Kuya(Older brothers) or else, we use the word "family".

"Kayo" is used because a family is consisted of several people therefore it's plural.

I hope it helps!

1.) Hindi mo ba ito nagustuhan?
2.) Nagustuhan mo ba?
3.) Sumasangayon ka ba?
4.) Aalis na ako.
5.) Mauna na ako sa'yo.

Hope it helps!
