| - one of the major mistakes i see non-urdu speaking ppl make is wen the pronounce the \"d\"..its actually pronounced like a soft d...more like \"th\"..same wid the \"a\" sound..in sum words like \"pakistan\"..its not short a..its really a long a..sounds like = paakistaan...if those two things can be fixed along wid sum other minor errors..the accent is fine. | |

| Urdu Accent Improvement - Hey dashaz ... you should try to use an English word as your exmple about alphabet \'d\' because she might not be able to figure it out from an Urdu/Hindi word Bangladesh.. :) Hi Suna, I\'ve a good example to explain the alphabet \"d\". It is nearly same as the voiced version of English \"th\" as in there, those, that, weather etc. The tip of the tongue should be touching the back of upper teeth. The alphabet \"D\" is same as English \"D\" as in doctor, dish, drama etc. But the urdu \"D\" is the retroflex as opposed to English \"D\" which is dental. The tip of the tongue touches your upper gums when you pronounce English \"D\", but the tongue is curled back and tip of tongue touches soft palate (front roof of the mouth)... Well, don\'t worry about it too much, English \"D\" sound nearly the same. Just don\'t mix up d (English th) and D, everything else will be fine. And about the accent improvement, you\'ll fine if you speak and practise your urdu with native speakers and listen to them. P.S. I can also help you to improve your pronunciation via MSN or Skype if you want. I need some assistance for my English accent as well. :) | |
