Urdu khoob hai! -
Brownmocha78,

It's nice to see someone who is interested in learning something other than the stock European languages.
Stick with Urdu, Hindi shares a lot of vocabulary with Urdu but the script is more complicated.

Now Urdu can be written in many styles, the most common in print are:

1 Naskh is used for typing Persian and Arabic

2 Nasta'liq is how Urdu is written by hand and in some cases Persian too

Learning the Urdu written script can be a bit daunting, I'd suggest you find a tutorial for learning Arabic (the script) and practise simple words like aap (you), naan (bread), naam (name) and khoob (good).

This doesn't mean you can't start learning Urdu words with a latin script, try to do them together, a good dictionary supporting latin/naskh is urduword.com

Please let me know how it goes and drop me an email if you need anything.

Khodaa hafez,

Alex
