Each word and phrase is tagged with one of these filter icons to help more accurately define the context of the expressions, who says it or who it's typically said to. You can turn filters on or off at your discretion. Turning them off will provide you with a more focused and narrowed set of E-Phrasebook content making it easier for you to learn and memorize.

Alternative Sayings
For each word and phrase item, there will be a variety of different ways to essentially say the same thing. If you are just starting out learning a new language and don't want to waste your time memorizing several different variations, then we recommend you to turn OFF these alternative expressions, leaving you with just the most common, useful, everday words and phrases in your display.

Each word and phrase is tagged with a rating that indicates the suitable age range of the subject matter. You must be at least 18 years old to view level 3 or 4 rated translations. If you choose level 3-R or level 4-XXX, you are agreeing that you are a mature adult over the age of 18..

Sorts Phrasebase E-Phrasebook words and phrases based on the number of times each was selected by a user in order to hear the pronunciation sound file. Each time a user selects a word or phrase item, a sound file is played so they can hear pronouniation. This funtion allows you to display the words and phrases in order from most to least clicked on item.
 
Most Useful
Sorts the Phrasebase E-Phrasebook content based on the usefulness of each item as deemed by the Phrasebase users casting their vote. Phrasebase users directly vote on the usefulness of each word and phrase item. This function allows you to view the E-phrasebook content in order of usefulness.
 
Rank order
Phrasebase collects a variety of input from our visitors, members and internal staff to determine which words and phrases are most to least important to learn. We've combined all this data and continually filter through it with a sophisticated algorithm to determine a rank order, a prioritization of which items are most to least important for you to learn. We believe that memorizing items in the order we present them here is the absolute most effective use of your memorization time and efforts in learning your target language.
 

Rate this translation

Associated with each word and phrase is a voting ballot box allowing you to rate the usefulness of the item. How do you determine a given word of phrases usefulness? Imagine you move to the country where you target language is spoken and you had to communicate there on a daily basis just to get by and survive. How much does the given word or phrase help you?
 
Mapping
This feature gives you a comprehensive overview of the entire Phrasebase E-Phrasebook word and phrase category structure. There is an entry form here allowing you to suggest new categories or new structures.
 
Randomizer
As the name suggests, this function will select and display a given set of random word or phrase items. This function is useful for testing yourself and checking to see how well you can memorize the Phrasebase E-Phrasebook content.
 
Language
Allows you to choose from any of the Phrasebase supported languages which is your native speaking language and which is your target language to learn. The left side language should always be set to your native language while the right side language should be set to the language you wish to learn.
 
Search
Search allows you to search for a given word or phrase. If your search query is not found in our database, it gets added, and then sorted, tagged and ranked accordingly. So please check back and eventually, someone will translate it into your target language.

Display Mode
Sets the user interface display for how to list the translations. The Quiz mode display for example works well when combined with the use of the Randomizer function. You can experiment with different display options to find the one most suitable for your purposes here.
 
Edit Translation
This function allows you to make an edit to an existing word or phrase item. Some changes may take place immediately, others will flag the language administrator, notifying them of your recommendation, and leaving the decision to them whether or not to change or modify the item per your suggestion. Note, this function is NOT enabled for ALL phrasebase E-phrasebook word or phrase translations, only the most common, useful, everyday words and phrases.
