What is the difference between “Outbox” and “Sent Items”?

August 12th, 2008

ANSWER: The Outbox is the place your Private Message goes to after being sent. Your PM remains there until the member you wrote to reads it.

In other words, once your message is opened by its recipient, it disappears from your Outbox and gets sent to your Sent Items.

Difference between a Teacher and Tutor?

June 5th, 2008

Phrasebase categorizes each of our language enthusiast members interest as either being that of either a Student, Teacher or Language Exchange Partner… or some combination thereof.

It is important to note that we often use the terms “Teacher” and “Tutor” interchangeably. Because they are so much alike.

However, in some cases, we get more detailed and discern the difference between Teaching and Tutoring. The difference as we define it to be, is basically this…

Tutors teach students 1 on 1.
Teachers teach 1 on many.. (Teachers teach class sessions consisting of several students.)

If you are student, you need to consider which environment is most suitable for you to learn a language. If you have an independent, self studying, largely introverted personality, then perhaps you would be better off learning in a Tutor<>Student environment.

However, if you are very social, extroverted and learn better in groups, then you may be more suitable in a Teacher<>Students environment.

Another difference is that in general, Individual Tutoring sessions cost more than Teacher led classroom sessions.

What is a Language Exchange Partner?

June 5th, 2008

A language exchange partner is a friend or pen-pal, a person who has an interest in learning a foreign language just like you do. Specifically, they have an interest in learning the language that you are fluent in and able to teach. And likewise, you have an interest in learning the language they are fluent in and able to teach you.

When such a mutually beneficial relationship exists, it makes sense to befriend this person and share language and culture with one another, to help each other learn their respective target language.

Phrasebase.com assists in matching you together with people who speak the language you want to learn, enabling you to establish language exchange partnerships.
