Usage of reich/rijk
Hi everybody!

I am interested about the usage of word rijk/reich in Netherlands and Flanders. Today and in history

I know about this:
*Koninkrijk der Nederlanden/België
*Rijksmuseum
*Rijksmonument

Do you know some other examples?

after ww2 word reich was demonized ... therefore it was removed from official usage in Germany:

*Deutsches Reich-->Bundesrepublik Deutschland
*Reichstag-->Bundestag
*Reichsmark-->Deutsche Mark etc.)

do you know any similar case in Netherlands/Flanders ??

rijk can have different meanings in dutch
- a state/region/dom like in koninkrijk
- rich

It is still used nowadays for certain govenment bodies.
http://www.werkenbijhetrijk.nl/wat-is-het-rijk/structuur-van-het-rijk/

It is also used to refer to the world of the animals in 'dierenrijk' or when we refer to old worlds, like 'het romeinse rijk'

a few examples can also be found at wikipedia here:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wereldrijk
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rijk_(staat)

certain adverbs/adjectives
eg.: belangrijk, omvangrijk

I can't think of examples of dropping the word 'rijk'
in the following example the words can be used interchangeable
rijkseigendom - staatseigendom

we have a saying in the netherlands:
'slapend rijk worden'
meaning you can get rich while you are sleeping.

well, I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but that's what I remember of the word 'rijk'.
